Clic K on top of his game
Drive for Charity swings into final month
Clic K is the morning-line favourite in the Saturday preferred pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The Jackie Matheson-trainee is coming off a stellar performance – a 1:53.3 trip – to cap off a nine-win display by driver Gilles Barrieau during P.E.I. Colt Stakes on Sept. 17.
Barrieau is on stakes’ assignment at Northside Downs in Nova Scotia, so Brian MacPhee gets the call to drive Clic K from Post 5 for the Plo Stables of Donagh.
The eight-year-old will be going for his second win in a row, and fourth of the season.
Stablemate Starcastic, driven by Ron Matheson, leaves from Post 6.
Back to compete
Nogreatmischief, handled by Gary Chappell, is back to compete after finishing second to Clic K by three lengths the last time they met.
“He seems to be getting better every week, something that could be attributed to his limited starts,” said race analyst Les MacIsaac. “His great finishing kick in a compact field makes him a major danger.”
Post 2
Ramblinglily is back on the Island, and drew Post 2 for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Allan Jones of Riverview, N.B. Lily has 10 wins from 17 starts while the Trevor Hicken-trained All Turain will have Ryan Desroche in the bike as Corey MacPherson is also booked for stakes’ action in Nova Scotia. The 18-year-old Desroche has 101 starts this year, and gets to drive one of harness racing’s top guns.
The rail goes to Narragansett for Jason Hughes and Foxyhall Racing of Summerside.
Moves up
Jetta Flys has had quite the streak lately. The pacer, under the command of Stephen Quinn, has recorded five straight second-place finishes, but moves up to take on Oh To Be Me and Spirit of America in Race 9.
Drive for Charity
The annual Drive for Charity is coming into the homestretch. The promotion that matches 10 drivers with businesses to raise money for local charities moves into its final month.
Post time for the 12-dash card is 6 p.m.
