Clippers, Steelers sail to victories

It was the “Cameron” show on Sunday in Souris, as the Summerside Cooke Insurance Varsity Clippers beat the Souris Wildcats 40-21. Quarterbac­k Camren Gavin threw for three touchdowns, including a 70-yard pass to wide receiver Cameron Paynter, and ran for another. Paynter also added an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Running back Cole Adams added a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, the Summerside Waterwise Bantam Spartans defeated the Eastern Kings Steelers 49-6 in Papa John’s P.E.I. Bantam Tackle League action on Sunday in Rollo Bay. Summerside was led by quarterbac­k Luke Payne who threw two touchdown passes, one to wide receiver Ethan Haakman, and another to tight end Blake MacKinnon. Haakman also had a rushing touchdown while Ryan Lawless, Charlie Turner, Kyle Cameron, and Arman Singh scored majors for the 2-0 Spartans.
