Clippers, Steelers sail to victories
It was the “Cameron” show on Sunday in Souris, as the Summerside Cooke Insurance Varsity Clippers beat the Souris Wildcats 40-21. Quarterback Camren Gavin threw for three touchdowns, including a 70-yard pass to wide receiver Cameron Paynter, and ran for another. Paynter also added an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Running back Cole Adams added a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, the Summerside Waterwise Bantam Spartans defeated the Eastern Kings Steelers 49-6 in Papa John’s P.E.I. Bantam Tackle League action on Sunday in Rollo Bay. Summerside was led by quarterback Luke Payne who threw two touchdown passes, one to wide receiver Ethan Haakman, and another to tight end Blake MacKinnon. Haakman also had a rushing touchdown while Ryan Lawless, Charlie Turner, Kyle Cameron, and Arman Singh scored majors for the 2-0 Spartans.
