A new Chamber of Commerce is forming in West Prince.

The chamber has a long history in West Prince, but has been inactive in recent years.

Recently, there has been interest in getting the organization going again and a steering committee has been planning a meeting to kick things off. The meeting will be held at the Mill River Resort on Wednesday, Feb. 15, getting underway at 7 p.m.

There are two main orders of business: approval of draft bylaws for the organization and an election of officers and directors for the coming year.

The draft bylaws are available for viewing at CBDC Rural Action Centre in Alberton or electronically at: http://www. cbdc.ca/sites/default/files/ chamber_bylaws_updated.pdf. Steering committee member Geoffrey Irving of You Move Physio has been nominated to serve as president of the renewed organization.

Irving said he is looking forward to getting the chamber up and running again and indicated a dedicated group of area businesspeople have agreed to serve on the executive and board of directors. A nominating committee also named John Maynard of Key Murray Law to serve as vice-president; Mike Adam from Grant Thornton, treasurer; and Carol Rybinski, Tyne Valley Tea and Company, secretary.

The proposed slate of directors will consist of Mary Ellen Rennie, the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy; Hichele Oliver, Holland College/Cousins Restaurant; Colby Callaghan, P.E.I. Mutual; Jackson Platts, P.E.I. Juice Works; Janet Ogilvie, Green Gable Alpacas; Paul Arsenault, Valley View Motors; Dennis Gallant, D&M Tools and Tara Connely, ÉvangélineCentral Credit Union.

Irving anticipates there will be quarterly meetings of the chamber as well as business mixers and socials and the executive will meet close to monthly.

Chamber memberships can be obtained by contacting Michelle Penwarden at the Alberton Rural Action Centre, michelle.penwarden@cbdc.ca, (902)853-3636 and memberships can also be purchased at the annual meeting. Entertainment will be provided following Wednesday’s meeting.
