McCardle, Grady lead Vipers

Gallant, Hackett net hat tricks for Red Wings vs. Maniacs

A rookie and a veteran led the way for the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers on Sunday afternoon.

Affiliated player CJ McCardle, who plays with the Crapaud-based Southside Lynx of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League, scored the game’s lone goal 1:19 into the third period, and Vipers goaltender Grant Grady registered a 37-save shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Falcons.

The Vipers hosted the Island Junior Hockey League contest at Community Gardens.

Riley Gallant and Easton Smith set up McCardle’s gamewinnin­g goal as the league-leading Vipers improved to 16-7-4 (won-lost-overtime losses).

Alex Kelly also finished with

37 saves for the Metros (10-15-3).

Red Wings win

In other action Sunday night, Chasse Gallant (3-2) and Cole Hackett (3-1) each netted hat tricks to spark the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings to a 10-7 decision over the Eastern Maniacs.

Jason Gallant (2-1), Colton Chiasson (1-1) and Connor Morrissey also scored for the second-place Red Wings (1511-1). Calvin McRae chipped in with four assists.

Tyler Rose (2-2), Shawn Corney (1-2), Dalton MacDonald (1-1), Spencer Compton (1-1), Connor MacIntyre (1-1) and Mark Burke replied for the Souris-based Maniacs (4-17-1). The Red Wings held period leads of 5-2 and 8-3. Bronson Banks was the winning goaltender.
