Hurricanes play final home games

At Holland College Centre for Community Engagement

The Holland Hurricanes will host their final Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (ACAA) regular-season games this weekend.

The Holland College men will entertain the Dal AC Rams on Saturday, before the men’s and women’s teams take on the St. Thomas Tommies at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.

The fourth-place men’s Hurricanes, the 2017 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (CCAA) national men’s basketball championsh­ip hosts, enter weekend play with a 12-7 (wonlost) record.

The Hurricanes currently lead the conference in points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, steals per game and blocks per game.

Individual­ly, Trenity Burdine and Roosevelt Whyley sit first and third in the scoring race, averaging 19.6 and 18.3 points per game, respective­ly.

Michael Kayeye is third in the ACAA with 3.5 assists per game, and Jayden Nordin is right behind him in fifth averaging 3.4 assists per game.

The Hurricanes have taken both matchups with the Rams this year. Holland College has also won the two head-to-head meetings with the Tommies (415) this year.

The Rams, meanwhile, are 5-15.

The men’s games will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Women

The women’s Hurricanes currently lead the league in points per game and assists per game while sitting second in blocks per game and steals per game.

Individual­ly, Jayla Verney leads the conference averaging 18.6 points per game. Verney is also third in assists per game and second in steals per game.

Tyleigha Nelson sits in a tie for sixth in rebounds per game, third in steals per game and fourth in blocks per game. The No. 4-ranked team in the CCAA, the Hurricanes are 16-1, and have clinched first place in the conference heading into next weekend’s ACAA championsh­ips.

Holland College has won both previous matchups with the Tommies (8-8).

Tip-off on Sunday is 2 p.m.
