Muirhead nets winner for Caps

Six players record two points in road win

Kallum Muirhead’s powerplay goal late in the third period lifted the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals to victory on Friday night.

Muirhead broke a 3-3 tie at 15:35 of the third period, and captain Nathan Yetman scored with 36 seconds remaining to seal the 5-3 win in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) contest.

The Caps, who improved to 22-21-0-3 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses), return to action on Friday, March 3, when they visit the leaguelead­ing Pictou County Crushers (33-8-2-1).

Two points

At the Campbellto­n Memorial Civic Centre, Muirhead and Yetman each added an assist and were among six Capitals who recorded two points in the game.

Tanner McCabe and David Osborne each had a goal and an assist while rookies Brodie MacArthur and TJ Shea contribute­d two helpers.

Pierre-Luc Lurrette, Tristan Young and Dominik Lavergne answered for the Tigers (12-301-2).

The Caps jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period, but the Tigers closed the gap to 3-2 at the end of 40 minutes. Caps goaltender Christofer Langlais made 30 saves against his former team while Campbellto­n goaltender Rowan O’Brien faced 39 shots.
