Midget Capitals clinch series vs. Abbies
Gallant records four points, scores winner
Blake Gallant played a starring role for the Summerside Capitals on Friday night.
Gallant scored a hat trick, including the winning goal at 9:55 of the third period, and recorded four points to pace the Caps to a 5-4 win over the Charlottetown Abbies at Credit Union Place. The victory gave Summerside a 3-1 win in the best-of-five quarter-final series.
The Caps will now face the first-place Western Regals from Alberton in the best-of-five semifinal series. Dawson McCormack scored the other two goals for the Capitals in the series-clinching win. Connor McAulay added a pair of assists while single helpers went to Dylan Mugridge, Marc-Andre Gallant, Sam Bernard and Nick Reeves.
Keir Warren (2), Jack Miller (1-2) and Connor Jones answered for the Abbies. Andrew Campbell (2), Ryan May and Dylan MacDonald assisted. The Caps held period leads of 2-1 and 3-2. Evan Richard was the winning goaltender, and Ava Boutilier was between the pipes for the Abbies.
