Vincent’s two goals spark Wildcats

Game 3 vs. Western in Summerside on Sunday night

A two-goal effort by Madison Vincent, along with two-point performanc­es from three other players, sparked the Mid-Isle Wildcats on Thursday night. The Wildcats defeated the Western Wind 7-2 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League.

The Wildcats will have an opportunit­y to go for the sweep at Credit Union Place in Summerside on Sunday at 7:50 p.m. However, a Western win will force Game 4 in Tyne Valley on Monday at 7:20 p.m.

Two-point efforts

At the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre, Mykayla Larsen (1-1), Kennedy Francis (1-1) and Taylor Gillis, who contribute­d a pair of helpers, also contribute­d two points to the Wildcats’ offence. Cassie Doiron, Lexie Murphy and Keiran Andrews added single goals while Kelsey Weeks and Paige Deighan chipped in with assists. Hayley Ellis and Ashton Grigg replied for the Wind. Sherrise Gaudet added an assist.

The Wildcats led 1-0 after the first period, and increased that margin to 3-1 following two periods.

Maggie Johnston earned the goaltendin­g win. Darcie Augustine tended goal for Western.
