For years Kyle Scott has performed dazzling fire art routines, but on Saturday he’ll get the chance to reach new heights and break a world record.

“Kyle’s pretty confident he can beat the record for largest flame blown, which sits at 27.5 feet,” said Vanessa Furlong, the events co-ordinator, stilt person and trapeze artist for Cirque Atlantic. “He’s a well known fire breather and fire artist, and he’s been performing for as long as we’ve been around, if not longer, but he’s never been given the opportunity to try to break the record.”

This year Atlantic Cirque is celebrating its 15th anniversary, and this weekend they will take to the Veterans Convention Hall and ice surface of Credit Union Place as part of the birthday celebrations.

“We’re really excited for this opportunity to celebrate our anniversary and theirs,” said Furlong.

“It’s hard to imagine how big a feat this is, so I tell people to take a sip of water and try shooting it 27 feet into the air. It’s not easy.”

To prepare, Scott has been exercising his diaphragm and lung capacity to ensure that he’ll be able to attempt breaking the record.

“He’ll be happy if he gets 27.6 feet, but if he can set the bar higher so the record won’t be so easily contested, it will be amazing,” said Furlong.

“At the end of the day, even if he doesn’t make it, it’s going to be an amazing site. The people watching will feel the heat, and if they cheer really loud it will pump him up. He’ll be ready.”

Scott will make the world record attempt on Saturday night during the first intermission at the Summerside Western Capitals game.
