Nancy Cole’s textile art exhibition opening Sunday at Eptek
Textile artist Nancy Cole’s solo exhibition, “Killing Time,” will be officially opened at Eptek Art & Culture Centre this Sunday at 2 p.m.
As with Cole’s earlier exhibitions, this is a thought-provoking display of work; even the title has a double meaning. When the emphasis is placed on “Killing,” the focus is on two large hand-quilted pieces inspired by strategic missions executed by CF-18 fighter jets; work that was inspired during Cole’s visit to CFB Comox as a Canadian Forces artist.
If the emphasis in the title is placed on “Time,” other aspects of the exhibition are highlighted, including an installation of machine-sewn portraits sketched in waiting rooms from doctors’ offices to airport terminals.
In addition to the dozens of textile sketches and other new work, Cole is exhibiting “O Mouse,” created and originally shown (in a stream) at the White Rabbit Festival in Nova Scotia.
Lacking a stream at Eptek Centre, the 50-foot machinecouched quote has been mounted on a wall.
The highlight of the March 5 opening will be an artist tour of the exhibition. Cole will share her inspiration, insights, and techniques with visitors that afternoon.
All are welcome and light refreshments will be served. The exhibition remains on display at Eptek until April 7. For more information, call (902) 888-8373 or visit www. peimuseum.com and or check out Eptek’s Facebok page.
