Bantam Matrix clinches second place

It came right down to the final two games of the regular season on Saturday, but the Mid-Isle Matrix clinched second place in the P.E.I. Major Bantam AAA Hockey League.

The Matrix defeated the North West Bulls 3-0 in an interlocki­ng game with the New Brunswick Major Bantam AAA Hockey League to finish one point ahead of the Matrix, who outscored the Central Storm 5-3. In action Friday, the Warriors and Eastern Express skated to a 2-2 tie.

The Matrix will host Game 1 of the best-of-five semifinal series at the APM Centre in Cornwall on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Matrix 3 Bulls 0

At the APM Centre, Dixon MacLeod, the league’s leading point-getter, led the Matrix with two goals and an assist. Marc Richard rounded out the scoring. Jonah Arbing recorded a 29-save shutout.

Warriors 5 Attack 3

At Simmons Sport Centre in Charlottet­own, Austin Arsenault (2-1), Dawson Wallace (2) and Zach Biggar provided goals for the Warriors. Connor Keough added four assists.

Alex Graham (2) and Noah Griffin (1-1) replied for the Attack, who held period leads of 2-1 and 3-2. Josh Lund added two helpers.

Aiden Williams earned the goaltendin­g win. Caleb Boswell was in goal for the Attack.

Warriors 2 Express 2

At the O’Leary Community Sports Centre, Keough’s goal with 2:18 remaining tied the game. Parker Gallant also scored for Prince County. Lucas Parson and Jack Campbell netted power-play goals for the Express.

Overall, the Express held a 33-29 shots-on-goal advantage. Goaltender­s were Chad Arsenault (Warriors) and Caleb Drake (Express).
