Mass held on Friday for truck driver Pat Gaudet

A memorial mass will be held Friday in British Columbia for Pat Gaudet, the truck driver who died last week after his tractor- trailer crashed in B. C.

Gaudet, formally from P. E. I., died Saturday at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminste­r, B. C., five days after his truck went off the road and careened about 100 feet down an embankment close to the entrance of Manning Provincial Park.

He was 45.

Gaudet is survived by his wife, Yvonne, and the couple’s daughters, Kiera and Maura. He is also survived by his mother, Melinda Mulligan, of Central Bedeque, P. E. I.

Gaudet had worked for Sutco Contractin­g Limited, Wildmare Contractin­g Ltd., Old Castle Glass Trucking Company, Tinhorn Creek Winery and Alberta Spirits.

He is being remembered as a strong family man who enjoyed many family vacations to the Seattle area, including the Great Wolf Lodge Fun Park.

He also vacationed with his family in P. E. I.

Gaudet, who enjoyed woodworkin­g, was a wine connoisseu­r and a certified sommelier. He was a member of Christ King Catholic Church and volunteere­d with the 1st Oliver Scouts as quartermas­ter. An online campaign has raised more than $ 20,000 for his family in just one day. Donations are also gratefully accepted for the P. E. I. Paraplegic Associatio­n.
