Sadiku doesn’t regret move
TOSH grad enjoys first season at Brock
It’s a move Ligrit Sadiku doesn’t regret.
Sadiku, a Summerside resident and graduate of Three Oaks Senior High School, moved from Western to Brock for his sophomore year of university.
“I came here for the wrestling,” said Sadiku. “The coaches and training partners are so committed, which is probably why they are the best team in Canada. “If you work hard here you will excel. We train two to three times a day, and it’s a very tough room.” However, since Sadiku transferred universities, he was not eligible for the Ontario University Athletics ( OUA) championships and U Sports nationals for one year.
“It is disappointing,” admitted Sadiku, 20. “I got bronze last year, but I am very confident I could have won this year in two different weight classes ( at nationals).
“I’ve actually beaten the people who were in the finals before.”
Sadiku enjoyed a strong season in his first year with the Badgers, which included going undefeated in his first four tournaments. He also won a bronze medal at an international competition, where he suffered his first loss of the year to a Japanese competitor.
Next up for Sadiku, who was named Sport P. E. I.’ s intercollegiate male athlete of the year in February and is a prod- uct of the Wolfpack Wrestling Club in Summerside, is the national championships at the end of March.
“My goal is to win it and make a senior world team,” he added. “If that’s not possible, hopefully medal and get on the under- 23 world team.”
