Nova Scotia’s Mocean Dance is returning to the Harbourfront Theatre Saturday, this time with their contemporary dance presentation, “Sable Island.”
Nova Scotia’s Mocean Dance is returning to the Harbout-front Theatre in Summerside with their contemporary dance presentation, “Sable Island”.
A physically and emotionally charged work, “Sable Island” embodies the relentless sway of the fierce ocean encircling the famous isle and the mystery and untamed spirit of the wild horses that live there.
Performed by a quintet of dancers, the work features an original musical score by Montreal composer Bertrand Chénier, transforming the theatre into a windswept island, ocean floor and rocky shoreline.
Mocean Dance will also be offering special outreach activites aimed at engaging young Island dancers.
Up to 18 students from Dance Umbrella and Dance Virtuosa will participate in the workshops and rehearsals with the company, and open the performance with a brief community dance piece.
Mocean Dance, based in Halifax, tours internationally, delivering performances that engage audiences, and offers outreach activity to support growth of contemporary dance in Canada.
The performance is set for Saturday, March 11, at 7: 30 p. m.
Tickets are available at the box office or at harbourfronttheatre.com.
