Timeless tale

Ballet Jörgen bringing popular ballet to Summerside

-

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is bringing Tchaikovsky’s classic “Swan Lake” to Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside on March 31.

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen presents Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” at Harbourfront Theatre, Friday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. Bengt Jörgen, a Canadian classical ballet choreographer, is bringing the production across Canada so everyone has the opportunity to see, experience and be touched by this timeless tale told through the magic of classical dance.

“Swan Lake” is the story of a Princess Odette, who is turned into a swan by the evil baron evil Von Rothbart. Will Prince Siegfriend be the true love that rescues her and breaks the spell?

Established in 1997, Ballet Jörgen is a classical ballet company that aims to make ballet accessible and relevant to 21st century audiences, delivering programming in all 10 of Canada’s provinces as well as into the United States.

In addition to the professional dance company, a number of young Island dance and theatre students will have the opportunity to perform in “Swan Lake” through Ballet Jörgen’s Local Particpant Program. Through recommendations from their dance teachers, students will be selected to rehearse and perform in the production, in such roles as 18th century servants and children, ballroom attendants, fortress soldiers, court pages and ladies in waiting.

Tickets are available at the box office and at harbourfronttheatre.com.
