Maniacs stay alive with OT win over Vipers

Alex Gallant made sure the Eastern Maniacs stayed alive in the Island Junior Hockey League playoffs. Gallant scored 50 seconds into overtime to give the Maniacs a 4-3 win over the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers.

The win cut the Vipers’ lead in the best-of-seven semifinal series to 3-2, and forces a Game 6, which will be played in Souris on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Also on Sunday night, the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings doubled the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros 4-2 at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottet­own to sweep that semifinal series. No other game details were available at deadline time.

Maniacs 4 Vipers 3 (OT)

At Community Gardens, the Vipers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermissi­on, and the Maniacs were ahead 2-1 following 40 minutes.

Zach Kennific scored twice in regulation time for the Maniacs, who also received a single goal from Dalton MacDonald. Eddie Jenkins, Matt Cox,

Damon MacDonald and Cole Jenkins drew assists. Jordan Mayhew (1-1), Spencer McAllister (1-1) and Easton Smith replied for the Vipers. James Murphy,

Liam Giffin and Ryan McKenna set up the goals.

Overall, the Vipers outshot the Maniacs 40-35.

Cam Duffy earned the goaltendin­g win over Grant Grady.
