Group travels to P.E.I. in search of the ultimate burger.

A group of friends from St. Andrews and Saint John, New Brunswick, have set out on a culinary adventure to find the best burger on P.E.I.

“We always wanted to visit the P.E.I. Burger Love festival after hearing about it from a friend (Janelle Arsenault) who lives on the Island,” said Shawna Wallace. “So last year we decided to take a road trip.”

Over the course of three days, the group tried 10 burgers all made from 100 per cent Island beef.

“I discovered my favourite burger [The Gaucho] at Terre Rouge restaurant in Charlottetown,” reminisced Wallace. “I remember the charred red onion aioli and Chimichurri sauce with a poppy seed bun, garnished.”

During the 30-day annual P.E.I. Burger Love festival, 163,170 burgers were sold at 73 restaurants.

“We enjoyed our time on the Island so much that we are returning on Fri., April 21st,” said Wallace. “But this time our group will be even bigger, consisting of 16 people.” Burgers range from tasty, mellow and smooth to sugary sweet.

Some of the restaurants participating will donate $1 for each Burger Love they sell this month to the United Way of P.E.I. The Give Back Burger fund will help increase access to local and affordable produce for Islanders.
