A timeline of Fred’s life
– Born on Jan. 12, 1923
– Enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces on June 5, 1940
– Wounded in Sicily, Italy, during his first days of action on the front around 1941
– Spent two months in the North Africa Military Hospital
– Served the next eight months on the front lines in Ortona. Wounded during the battle on March 18, 1944, where he lost his right hand and most of his hearing
– Discharged from the military on Aug. 17, 1944
– Moved to Hamilton, Ont., four years after the war, staying there until 1973, working as an elevator operator
¬– Met Thalda in June 1952 and married her in November of that same year
– Moved back to P.E.I. in 1973, living in Charlottetown until 1992 when they moved to Summerside
– Has been living in Summserset Manor since 2015.
