Three reappointed to Summerside Heritage Board

-

The Summerside planning board has recommended the reappointment of three people to the city’s Heritage Planning Board.

The appointments are for another two-year term.

The three reappointed, Julie Simmons, Borden Boyles and Natalie Hashie, were all originally appointment to the board in April of 2015.

The Heritage Planning Board consists of three councillors and three members of the public and the mayor and chief administrative officer acting in an ex officio capacity. The board makes recommendations to council regarding heritage conservation issues, including: designation of heritage properties, land use applications with potential impacts on heritage, official plan and bylaw amendments of a heritage nature and any other issues assigned to it by council.

Funding approved for new CUP board and glass

Summerside City Council has approved $248,200 to be spent on new glass and boards for Credit Union Place. Staff had informed council previously that the current boards and glass have become worn from frequent removal and reeinstalation over the past 10 years and now require significant maintenance to keep them in safe working order. The city issued a request for proposals on this project but only received one submission, from Athletica Sports Systems and its CrestalPlex Series A system.

This project was planned for in the city’s 2017 budget, however, only $225,000 was set aside. JP Desrosiers, director of community services, recently told council he is confident his department will be able to make up the financial shortfall within budget as there are a couple of other projects expected to be less expensive than expected. There is also the possibility that the city’s current boards will be sold to another local rink to help offset some of the cost.
