Discover your roots

Genealogy Fair taking place in Summerside

- BY DANIEL BROWN

Dive into your family tree during Summerside’s Genealogy Fair.

The Prince Edward Island Genealogical Society is hosting the fair on April 29. It goes from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Summerside.

The fair will offer resources for people wanting to discover their roots.

Fred Horne, president of the society, said there will be at least 18 resource people from across the Island available to answer questions and give tips. “Response from the genealogy research community has been amazing.”

There will be two keynote presentations, the topics being “Family Stories: Are they true? Can you verify them” and “Breaking Down Brick Walls: Lightning Talks.”

Information will be provided on how to date old photos, how to harvest information from historical records, and much more.

A full-day pass and one year Society membership is $25. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. For more information call Horne at 902-675-4791, or email fredchorne@gmail.com.
