Tribute to Lady Singers of our Century
Concert presented at Winsloe United Church April 24
Some of P.E.I.’s talented female vocalists are teaming up to present a “Tribute to Lady Singers of Our Century” on Monday, at the Winsloe United Church.
These women have been performing to sell-out shows across the Island. However, the April 24 show is new with some of the singers paying tribute to new artists.
Judy McGregor and Joan Reeves, also known as comedy duo Ding and Dong, will host this fundraising concert along with Marcella Richard, Keila Glydon and Colleen MacPhee. These ladies will be performing covers from female stars such as Polly Parton, Patsy Cline, Linda Rondstadt, Rita MacNeil, Tanya Tucker and The McGuire Sisters.
Raised in Mont-Carmel, Richard has been involved in theatre and music for many years, performing throughout the Maritimes, across Canada, United States and France. She recorded three French albums of songs written by artists from the Maritimes and Louisiana. She has just released a new CD which she will have available for sale on Monday night.
Richard will be paying tribute to Polly Parton, performing some of her most popular songs. She will be standing in for the tribute group’s regular, Jolee Patkai, who will be out of the province.
Glydon has performed with many different groups over the years singing backup harmony as well as lead with the popular gospel group Glory Land Express. She now performs with Dino and the Harmonies as well as Phase 11 and Friends. Glydon has written many songs that can be found on her latest CD, “Here I Am Lord.” For the new show, Glydon will pay tribute to Cline and Rondstadt. MacPhee has been singing and playing guitar since the age of 12. She has entered and won numerous contests and has two recordings to her credit. She will pay tribute to MacNeil, doing new songs and some of last year’s favourites, such as “Working Man.” McGregor and Reeves have been singing together for years, producing beautiful harmonies as well as lots of humour. For the 2017 show, they will be paying tribute to Tanya Tucker and the McGuire Sisters.
Joining the women will be Larry Campbell on guitar, Heartz Godkin on bass, Brian Knox on percussions, and Judy Lowe on keyboard.
This concert is a fundraiser for the church, located at 121 Winsloe Rd. Tickets are $12 at the door with doors opening at
