Highlanders erupt late
The Cape Breton Highlanders scored 77 second half points Friday in Sydney, N.S., to defeat the Island Storm 120-110. It was the Storm’s third game in as many days and the loss ended the team’s three-game winning streak in National Basketball League of Canada action.
Chad Frazier and Anthony Walker had 26 and 25 points, respectively, to lead the charge for the Highlanders. Jahii Carson led the Storm with 26 points and five assists while Akeem Ellis had 20 points and Terry Thomas and Al Stewart each scored 15. Thomas had a team-high nine rebounds.
The Storm led 36-26 after the first quarter and 63-43 at the halftime, but the Highlanders cut the deficit to six (86-80) heading to the fourth.
The Storm (16-20) hit the road to Ontario and will play at the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans Sunday at 3 p.m. Atlantic.
