Basketball P.E.I., Morrisons to offer two summer camps

Basketball P.E.I. is partnering with Basketball 101 Developmen­t School to offer two weeks of camps during the summer.

They will provide an opportunit­y for athletes to improve their fundamenta­ls while raising funds for Basketball P.E.I. George and Scott Morrison co-own Basketball 101 Developmen­t Schools,

“Scott and I wanted to continue to offer a basketball camp that has been recognized as an excellent week of developmen­t for all players who attend,” George said. “However, we also wanted to see the profits go towards furthering the developmen­t of the game in this province. That is why we chose to partner with Basketball P.E.I.” George coached at the university and college level for 30 years while Scott has been the head coach of the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtic’s NBA

D-League affiliate, for the past three seasons.

Basketball P.E.I. president Peter Lawlor is grateful the Morrisons approached the organizati­on, which aims to grow the game and develop athletes.

“Basketball 101 targets both of these goals,” he said. “It is one of the premier developmen­t opportunit­ies for our athletes during the off-season, plus it will provide us with the funds we need to run an effective highperfor­mance program for our elite athletes.” be open to boys and girls entering Grades 7 to 12.

Guest coaches include Dale Farish, a longtime coach on P.E.I.; Darrell Glenn, the newlynamed UPEI men’s basketball coach, and Lonnie States, who has coached in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. for many years. Additional coaches will be announced later.

“These camps offer athletes the opportunit­y to take the time to focus on the fundamenta­l skills needed to become elite basketball players,” added Trent Whitty, Basketball P.E.I.’s executive director.
