Jazzing up schools
Andrew Waite & the Firm featured in P.E.I. Jazz and Blues
The P.E.I. Jazz and Blues Festival is presenting their annual School Tour, featuring Island rock group Andrew Waite & the Firm.
This tour will bring professional musicians into 12 schools across P.E.I., exposing students to live music and also providing opportunities for many students to participate. From students guesting on vocals, guitar or piano, to entire band programs of students backing up the band on clarinets and trumpets, there is always a chance to be a part of the show. And students across P.E.I. are not hesitating to have their musical voices heard.
The tour has existed for a number of years, inspiring and giving confidence to many young musicians, noted the organizers.
This year the Jazz and Blues Festival has partnered with Island Rock Camps and the Holland College School of Performing Arts, to ensure that the focus remains on this vision of inspiring young musicians. Andrew Waite, Bruce Rooney, Evan McCosham and George Maros of the group Andrew Waite & the Firm, who are also instructors at the summer music camp (Island Rock Camps), have already visited Kensington Intermediate and Senior High, Athena Consolidated in Summerside, Gulf Shore and Stratford Elementary, and have eight schools left to see this week. They are visiting East Wiltshire and Summerside Intermediate schools today.
