Charlottetown showdown continues in preferred pace

Narragansett favoured in back-up event

- BY NICHOLAS OAKES

The battle of the titans resumes in the Saturday night preferred pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The six-horse field will line up in Race 9 of the 10-dash card, which will get underway at 6 p.m.

Adkins Hanover and Mr Irresistible have the rivalry squared at two wins each going into the feature.

Adkins Hanover is riding a two-race winning streak, and will leave from Post 6 for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke of Quebec.

Mr Irresistible has Post 5 for driver Jason Hughes, conditioner Jennifer Trainor and owner Danny Birt of Stratford. Adkins Hanover was a narrow winner over Mr Irresistible last week, but still gets the nod from race analyst Les MacIsaac. “Adkins Hanover wasn’t quite as dominant last week as he was in his previous start, but at the end of the day it was the same result,” MacIsaac said.

“We all know he’ll be setting up shop on the front end again, and, once there, there could be nothing but open road ahead.”

Other entries include Instant Shadow (Gilles Barrieau), Rash B Havior (Mike Peters), Junebugs Baby (Myles Heffernan) and Starcastic (Brian MacPhee).

Finale

The back-up pace hits the track in the Race 10 finale, with Narragansett favoured for victory over Beau Seelster. Narragansett has rail control for trainer-driver Hughes and owner Foxyhall Racing of Nova Scotia, but Beau Seelster rides a pair of second-place finishes into the showdown and has Post 2 for driver MacPherson, co-owner and trainer Kyle Wilkie of Stratford and co-owner Mallory Lewis of St. Peters Bay. Other top contenders include Mick Dundee (Donald MacNeill), fresh off an impressive 2:00 qualifier, from Post 3, and Jinglewriter (Post 6) for driver Adam Merner after winning her latest outing in 1:59.3.

Red Shores Charlottetown is proud to support the Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program. Customers can purchase tickets for their fundraiser at the track.

Prizes include a P.E.I.’s best barbecue basket and a dog prize package donated by Blue Ribbon Pet Supply.
