Gosbee top P.E.I. driver

Turple wins season-opening Lucas Oil 150

HALIFAX – Dylan Gosbee of Cornwall was the top Prince Edward Island driver in the Lucas Oil 150 on Saturday. Shawn Turple of Enfield, N.S., won the season-opening event for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour at Scotia Speedworld.

Turple held off reigning series champion Cole Butcher of Porter’s Lake, N.S., on a final restart with seven laps to go to lock down his first tour feature win since 2014. Butcher was second, Dylan Blenkhorn of Truro, N.S., finished third and Gosbee was fourth.

Other P.E.I. drivers in the 24car race were Charlottet­own’s Robbie MacEwen (eighth); Crapaud’s Kent Vincent (ninth); Charlottet­own’s Darren MacKinnon (10th); Springvale’s Greg Proude (13th); Albany’s Terry Dougay (14th); Oyster Bed Bridge’s Allison McKinnon (17th); Brudenell’s Jonathan Hicken (19th); Brackley Beach’s Chris Hughes (21st) and Clyde River’s Nevin Scott (24th).

Legends

The Maritime League of Legends also kicked off its season with the Atlantic Tiltload 50 prior to the main event. Adam Meehan of Rawdon, N.S., picked up his first career tour victory. Paul Goulden of Shelburne, N.S., finished second while Waylon Farrell of Conception Bay, N.S., took the final spot on the podium.

The Parts for Truck Pro Stock Tour returns to action at Perry Internatio­nal Raceway in River Glade, N.B., just outside of Moncton on Saturday, June 10, at 6 p.m.
