NEW TOOL FOR FARMERS

Pests, disease and extreme weather events are constant risks to the businesses and livelihood­s of farmers. On Thursday, the federal government announced a $786,921 investment for Farm Management Canada to develop new risk management tool to help Canadian farmers deal with serious challenges beyond their control. The “AgriShield” tool will help farmers assess the potential negative impact of risks to their operations and provide mitigation solutions.

POT PIES PILFERED

Police are trying to find whoever stole 200 frozen pies from a church in an Ontario community. Investigat­ors say the individual portion size turkey pot-pies were taken from a church in Ingersoll, Ont. They say the theft was reported on Wednesday and occurred between May 15 and May 21. The pies were stored in a freezer on the second level of the church.
