KRHS senior honoured as student-athlete of the month
Bailey Dawson has been a fixture on the sports fields and courts for the Kinkora Blazers during the 2016-17 P.E.I. School Athletic Association season. He will have competed in seven different sports at the end of the school year, and has been recognized as the school’s Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month.
Bailey Dawson has compiled an impressive resumé during his senior year at Kinkora Regional High School (KRHS). The 18-year-old son of Paul and Bethany Dawson of Cape Traverse will have proudly worn the Blazers’ blue and gold colours in seven different senior sports when the 2016-17 P.E.I. School Athletic Association season concludes in early June.
As a result of his efforts and dedication, Bailey has been honoured as the KRHS Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month.
“Bailey has been a big motivator for school sports this year,” commented KRHS athletic director Trent Ranahan. “He brings a lot of life to his teams, and leads by example.
“Bailey is involved a lot, and with him moving on next year he will certainly be missed in our programs here at KRHS.”
Fall season
During the fall season, Bailey played fullback in soccer and was a catcher in baseball.
In winter sports, he played the wing in basketball and defence for the Blazers in the annual high school hockey tournament.
For spring sports, Bailey, who is also a member of this year’s KRHS grad executive, competed in singles and doubles badminton, is a pitcher in softball and will throw the javelin, discus and shot put in track and field.
Outside of school, Bailey is also very busy as he is a member of the Toshidokan Judo Club in Summerside, and referees with the Southside minor hockey system.
Following graduation from high school in June, Bailey’s future plans include studying business at UPEI.
