Inaugural awards presented

Percussion­ist Max Gallant and Fandango choral ensemble win East Prince Festival’s first Canada 150 prizes

The awards concert for the 71st annual East Prince Music Festival was held recently at Trinity United Church in Summerside. The awards concert is a celebratio­n of performanc­es that took place during the music festival held from May 2 to 5 at the Summerside Baptist Church and Trinity United Church in Summerside.

In celebratio­n of Canada 150, committee members for the music festival announced the inaugural year for two new East Prince Music Festival Canada

150 awards.

The first East Prince Music Festival Canada 150 award for most outstandin­g instrument­al performanc­e was presented to percussion­ist Max Gallant. Max is the son of Peter and Christine Gallant of Summerside.

The East Prince Music Festival Canada 150 award for most outstandin­g vocal/choral performanc­e was presented to the Fandango choral ensemble, under the direction of Shirley Anne Cameron.

Each winner received a plaque and a $100 cash prize.
