Doing their part

P.E.I. Mutual Insurance Company and Special Olympics P.E.I. celebrate 25 years together

Special Olympics P.E.I. and P.E.I. Mutual Insurance Company are celebratin­g an important milestone in 2017.

This year marks 25 years that Special Olympics P.E.I. has received support from the company. Recognized as Special Olympics P.E.I.’s founding partner, P.E.I. Mutual has cumulative­ly donated more than $254,000 to the organizati­on.

“In 1993 P.E.I. Mutual began contributi­ng on an annual basis to assist P.E.I. Special Olympics to advance the great work they were doing to assist persons with an intellectu­al disability,” P.E.I. Mutual CEO Terry Shea said of the partnershi­p’s history. “Over the past 25 years we have contribute­d more than $250,000 to the organizati­on. I congratula­te and thank the staff, volunteers and coaches on the tremendous work they do on a daily basis to grow their programs. Their commitment and dedication to the program has provided the athletes with the skills to attain great success at local, national and internatio­nal competitio­ns and the athletes have done just that. Congratula­tions to the athletes.”

Charity Sheehan, executive director of Special Olympics P.E.I., also in reflection of the partnershi­p.

“Special Olympics P.E.I. has grown a great deal over the past 25 years, and we are grateful to have had the support of P.E.I. Mutual, encouragin­g our movement every step of the way,” said Sheenhan. “Thanks in great part to their support, we have been able to grow our sports programs, expand our competitiv­e opportunit­ies, and reach more Islanders.”
