The Three Oaks Axemen completed the hat trick on Wednesday night.

The Axemen trimmed the Kinkora Blazers 15-2 in five innings to win the Summerside high school’s third P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior Boys Softball League championship in a row.

The win in the gold-medal game also capped an undefeated season for the Axemen, who blanked the Westisle Wolverines 15-0 in a four-inning semifinal game earlier in the day.

“I do have a good group of kids, and they bought into the system,” said Axemen coach Dale MacDougall. “We had a strong lineup from one to 12, and it didn’t matter where they were in the lineup.” Logan MacDougall, who earned the pitching win for the Axemen, and Bennett MacArthur each batted 2-for-3 with a triple to spark the offence in the final that was played in a steady rain.

Liam Arsenault went 1-for-3 and scored a run for the Blazers. Bailey Dawson was the pitcher of record for Kinkora, which punched its ticket to the deciding game with a 19-7 win over the Bluefield Bobcats in the other semifinal.

“I felt it was a very successful season, and the boys came together,” assessed Blazers coach Trent Ranahan. “It was a very short season and not a lot of games played.

“They eventually found their spot on the roster and what they had to do. We had a very consistent season throughout.”
