Shadow’s Mystery captures open mare pace

It was redemption time for Shadows Mystery Thursday night as she knocked off the top pacing mares on the East Coast at Red Shores at the Charlottet­own Driving Park.

The Jackie Matheson-trainee converted a pocket ride to a trip to the winner’s circle in 1:56.3 in the $2,250 open mare’s pace. Ramblingli­ly (Walter Cheverie) did the early roadwork through fractions of 26.1, 57.3 and 1:27.1 before Shadows Mystery and driver Kenny Arsenault got up for a quarter-length victory for owner Gordie Ford of Charlottet­own. Ramblingli­ly was second with Woodmere Articblue (Marc Campbell) third. Morosita Bi won her Island debut with a 1:58.1 victory while snapping Freddie’s fourrace win streak in the $1,750 open trot for trainer-driver Jason Hughes and owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, N.S. Holy Molie Maggie finished second for driver Gary Chappell while Campbell and Freddie finished third as the race favorite.

Corey MacPherson took the early lead in the Drive For Charity as he scored three wins on the opening program of the season-long event. The Cornwall driver scored wins with Dusty Lane Jacob in 2:01.2, Brodys Leona in 1:59.2 and Tell Me Why in 1:58.3. He is paired up with MacRae Backhoe And Trucking with each win putting $25 towards Santa’s Angel’s every race day in Charlottet­own and Red Shores Summerside until Oct. 29.

Adam Merner had a driving double Thursday, winning with All Turain in 1:59.2 and Ic Brandonsco­wgirl in a maiden breaking 2:01.1.
