MacDougall recognized
Sport P.E.I. names three scholarship recipients
Three Oaks Senior High’s Logan MacDougall was one of three Island students to recently receive a scholarship. Sport P.E.I. teamed up with Gemini Screen Print and Embroidery, Sports Centre Physiotherapy and Discount Car and Truck Rentals to provide $1,000 scholarships to the three student-athletes, who are attending a post-secondary institution this fall.
Ava Boutiler, Colonel Gray High School; and Hannah MacLellan; Charlottetown Rural High School, also received the scholarship, which recognize excellence and achievement in sport, academics and community involvement.
The University of Winnipeg will be adding a top performer to its kinesiology program in the fall. Having been named Three Oaks athlete of the year in Grade 10 and 11, MacDougall is a well-rounded athlete having competed in five different sports for his high school. He has won an Island championship in four of the five, where his work ethic, leadership and dedication proved to be a major catalyst in his teams’ success. As Volleyball P.E.I.’s under-16 player of the year, MacDougall also recorded a first team all-star selection in AAA basketball, while pitching three no-hitters on his summer baseball team.
His achievements don’t stop there. Off the field of play, he is a respected member of Three Oak’s leadership and athletics councils.
Boutilier has been a top athlete on P.E.I. for many years. The national team goalie prospect, Boutilier has had the opportunity to train and compete across North America and Europe. Her dedication to not only excelling on the ice, but in the classroom, as she boasts a 94.2 per cent average. She will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in biology at the University of New Hampshire.
MacLellan is one of 12 paraswimmers in Canada who have been selected to train on the NextGen training squad, with hopes of competing at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo. Having competed all over the world, she still manages to allocate time to her studies and the community. MacLellan missed 40 school days, in order to compete on a world stage, but managed to received honours status for her academic achievements. She will be attending Carleton University in Ottawa this fall, where she will be studying Political Science.
