Capital man jailed for probation breach, other charges

John Wayne Blaisdell has expletive-filled outburst in court after sentencing

A Charlottetown man who was seen talking to a woman who wasn’t supposed to have any contact with him was sentenced Monday to 105 days in jail on three charges.

But, John Wayne Blaisdell, 32, didn’t take the sentence well and left the courtroom after an expletive-filled outburst from the prisoners’ box. Blaisdell appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where she sentenced him for breaching his probation, failing to attend court and abetting a woman in the breach of a probation order.

Orr gave Blaisdell, who has been in custody since his arrest, credit for 25 days leaving him 80 days left to serve.

The court heard someone reported seeing Blaisdell talking to the woman in October 2016, which was a violation of her probation.

Blaisdell was also charged for failing to report to his own probation officer.

He then missed a court date in February.

After Orr sentenced Blaisdell, he sat in the prisoners’ box in the courtroom while another matter was dealt with and was quiet at first.

When Orr returned to the bench after a break she mentioned that Blaisdell and the woman were communicating with each other in the courtroom, despite court orders that they have no contact. That started Blaisdell’s outburst. “Am I in control of this courtroom?” he asked.

At one point Blaisdell wiped tears from his face after saying all he wanted was to be a father. He later shook as he sat with his face in his hands.

Once all of the day’s matters were done and sheriffs led him out of the courtroom, Blaisdell swore as he said the justice system was a joke.
