More than $29.8 million announced for infrastructure projects
The provincial and federal governments have announced more than $29.8 million in spending for 26 water and wastewater projects around P.E.I.
That announcement was made Friday morning with the federal government contributing almost $20 million to the projects.
The provincial government will provide almost $10 million in funding with any remaining project costs falling to municipalities.
Some of the projects include wastewater treatment facility upgrades and storm water infrastructure.
About $15 million of the funding will be spent on projects in Charlottetown.
That includes upgrades to the Charlottetown pollution control plant, which will receive $6.3 million from the federal government and $3.1 million from the province.
The Winter River wellfields project is receiving $880,000 from the federal government and another $440,000 from the province.
The Parkdale water and sewer system upgrades received $2.2 million from Ottawa and another $1.1 million from the province.
The Queens Arms storm trunk replacement will cost the federal government $605,000 with another $302,500 coming from the province.
The federal government is handing $204,500 to the Town of Cornwall for a wellfield exploration study. Another $102,250 is coming from the province.
Funding was also announced for Abram-Village for the Bellue Vue water project, with $136,560 coming from the federal government and other $68,280 coming from the province.
Albany is receiving money for upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility, $996,875 from Ottawa and another $498,437 from the province. In West Prince, Alberton’s stormwater projects along Dufferin, Main, Prince William and Elder streets will cost the federal government $67,176 with $33,588 coming from the province.
Kinkora is receiving money for wastewater, including $669,387 from the federal government and $334,693 from the province. Georgetown is planning water system upgrades. The town received $75,000 from Ottawa and $37,500 from the province.
Nearby Montague received $270,000 from the federal government and another $135,000 from the provincial government for upgrades to the stormwater system on Fraser Street. Finally, Murray Harbour sewer upgrades will get funding of $1.5 million from the federal government and $760,000 from the province.
