Murder victim remembered as having a big heart

- BY JORDAN PARKER

The 18-year-old victim of Wednesday evening’s murder in Halifax is being remembered by a friend as having “the biggest heart.”

Chelsie Probert of Halifax was found dying on a park path between Albro Lake Road and Farrell Street in Dartmouth, and the medical examiner has ruled her death a homicide.

Police received a 911 call at 10 p.m. and she was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Probert’s friend Chase Marinoff was reached on Facebook Thursday morning and said he couldn’t believe what had happened.

“She’s such a young girl. It’s hard to imagine something like this happening. I have no idea why this happened and that’s why everyone is so hurt by this,” said Marinoff during a Facebook conversation with The Chronicle Herald.

“She was always on everyone’s good side. She didn’t do drugs or drink, and she surrounded herself with people who were looking to benefit themselves and move into the future.”

He said she took care of herself and stayed away from negative influences.

“She had such a big heart and was always so sweet. She was so focused and it’s sad someone would take an (innocent) girl’s life,” he wrote. “She was the girl everyone loved.”

Marinoff said he dated Probert for more than a year after they met at a fair through mutual friends a few years back. They remained best friends after the split.

“That’s the type of person she was. She never made enemies and she didn’t deserve something like this,” he wrote.

“Chelsie will always have a place in my heart. I’ll never forget the time we spent together. It’s so sad to see a young life being taken. This has to stop.”

Halifax Regional Police have not confirmed the cause of death.
