Kieran Keller is pleased to see legendary artists coming to Harbourfront Theatre this summer and fall.

“Last year, during our anniversary celebrations, we went with a variety theme. This year we’re continuing to draw on that. It’s had a lot of appeal and it’s nice to have a mix of things.”

“We’ve got Bruce Cockburn coming with his ‘Bone on Bone’ tour. I’ve been trying for some time to get Bruce to come. And with a little persistence and a little bit of luck we’ve got a date on Sept. 17,” said Keller, the executive director of the theatre.

Buffy Sainte-Marie will also make an appearance this fall as part of Canada 150 celebrations, on Nov. 1.

“She’s an icon in and of itself.”

But kicking off the summer season in June was “Me and the music” Danspirations

showcase.

June seemed to be the month dance programs hosted their end of year recitals, said Keller. “So our shows blend well into that we have a lot of dance performances including Celtic Fire on June 16.”

This year is also comprised of new and returning faces. “We’ve got The Four Tellers coming back with ‘Top Hats and Tales’ for two shows. It’s all new stories but the same players.

As well as the Ellis Family Band, and Fiddler’s Sons taking the stage on Aug. 16.” An exciting new act is Olate Dogs Rescue Tour coming to the theatre in August.

“For those who don’t know the story, all of the dogs have been rescued by this family who have trained them to perform tricks and stunts. There are going to be 22 dogs in the theatre. It’s going to be fabulous.” Lisa Brokop’s ‘Patsy Cline Project’ will also make an appearance as well as ‘Searching for Abegweit: The Island Songs and Stories of Lennie Gallant’. Kendra, Bruce and Boomer will also make an appearance with a final farewell in “The End of an Error”.

Another act Keller is excited for is Hat Fitz and Cara on Sept. 9.

“You can do no wrong by coming to see this duo.” The couple perform Celtic blues from Australia and Ireland.

“They’re not a well known name, but their incredible performers.”

In the meantime, Keller and staff at the theatre are already looking to solidify the winter season and next year’s summer performances.

“I’m excited to see the crowd’s reaction this season. They tell us what they liked and what didn’t work. This is their stage. We just try to steer it in the right direction.”
