This is my Canada
Crowd-funding project reaches goal, collaborative recording of patriotic song is accomplished
Jeanette Arsenault’s dream came true with the help of 400 Canadians who helped bring the bilingual, patriotic song “This Is My Canada/Mon cher Canada” and the accompanying music video to life.
The project, started by Arsenault, called for Canadians to join “Dream Team Canada” to bring together award winning vocalists and performers to make a new recording of the song. The recording also includes vocal performances by Arsenault, the Ontario-based Acadian singer, and New Brunswick-based songwriter, Don Coleman, who organized the singing team and produced the song and video. The result was an emotionally charged audio/visual presentation that exudes anthem-like qualities, combined with stunning visuals of the Canadian landscape.
“My aunt Angele, who was my idol and an accomplished songwriter, always encouraged me to launch this song nationally,” said Arsenault.
Years after its inception, the song will be launched nationally this year.
It features an All-Canadian
cast known as Dream Team Canada Singers, such as fivetime Grammy and Juno award winning vocalist David Clayton-Thomas; multiple Juno and Grammy award winner Liberty Silver; Juno award winning recording artist Wilfred LeBouthillier; and the eight time Juno award winning and Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductees, The Good Brothers.
The Young Singers children’s choir also participated on the project as well as a handful of other Canadian artists.
Twelve-year-old Malakai Daybutch, one of Canada’s soughtafter traditional indigenous dancers, is also appear in the video.
Next is a documentary that represents the story of this national song, its participants and all of the elements that made it come together. “The Making of This Is My Canada/Mon cher Canada,” is being created and will be submitted to Netflix, cable networks and film festivals around the world.
