One never knows

-

Warning: You don’t know what’s getting into you. RCMP on Prince Edward Island have confirmed that quantities of drugs seized in two recent raids in this province contain traces of the dangerous drug Fentanyl. The pills were made to resemble other drugs. A wolf in sheep’s clothing so to speak.

That’s the thing about manufacturers of illegal drugs: They really don’t care about the users, they just want to make a sale. And users never really know what they’re getting, or if they do they disregard the consequences. How dangerous is Fenanyl? The RCMP warns that just two milligrams of pure Fentanyl is enough to kill a consumer. The equivalent of two grains of salt, but this is not salt manufacturers and consumers are playing with; it’s people’s lives.

The manufacturers and dealers are profiting from the sale of those drugs and the buyers are risking their lives.

Can anyone really trust a manufacturer of illicit drugs?

No. They deal in lies, poison and death.

Byelection in Town of Tignish

A byelection is scheduled for Monday in Tignish. This is Tignish’s first since becoming a town. Three candidates are in the running for the one vacancy. They are: John McInnis, Kelly Ashley and Cheryl Des-Roches.

Only one of the candidates can win a seat at the council table, but all three are winners for wanting to make a difference in their new town. Now it’s just a matter of residents getting out and making their choice. It’s their first opportunity to pick a town councillor.

Big business

We all like to dream big from time to time. It could be a dream to become an NHL superstar, or to win the lottery. It might be to have the top academic marks of a high school graduating class or win the world armwrestling championship.

No doubt Harvey Stewart had high hopes for his live bottom trailers when he formed Trout River Industries 18 years ago. It all started with that first trailer. Now Stewart and his business partner, Darrin Mitchell, have trailers on the roads of many countries in the world. The rapid growth of Trout River Industries, a Coleman Corner-based company, recently caught the attention of ‘Worldwide Business with Kathy Ireland’, a California-based business show that is seen in more than 50 countries.

Trout River Industries is catching the attention of the world. It’s one thing to dream of that kind of attention, but Trout River Industries is living the dream.

Smooth crossing

Twenty-some years ago, an event like this weekend’s Bridge Fest would likely have caused long line-ups and waits at ferry terminals in Borden and Cape Tormentine. Reminiscent of such line-ups, the bridge will be closed for seven hours this Sunday for the IWK Bridge Walk. And then traffic flow will quickly return to normal.

But, still, it’s a little reminder of the hurry-up-and wait nature of getting onto and off of this Island before the bridge was built. Of course, anyone who misses that means of transportation can still take a trip to the other end of the Island and take the ferry from Wood Islands.
