Shopping will be an option

Here’s a bit of a sample of what is open and closed on Canada Day in Charlottet­own

There will be no shortage of things to do on Canada Day. In Charlottet­own and Summerside the tall ships are docked at port but people will also have some shopping options as well.

Some stores are closing for Canada Day while others are operating on reduced hours. There are a few that will be operating as per normal. Atlantic Superstore and Sobeys, in both Summerside and Charlottet­own are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission stores are also open and will operate on normal business

hours. It’s business as usually for all of the agency stores as well.

In Charlottet­own, department stores Walmart and Sears, are open. Walmart is operating on normal business hours while Sears is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walmart in Summerside is also open regular hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The County Fair Mall in Summerside is closed for the day with the exception of Lawtons, which will be open from noon until 5 p.m.

The Charlottet­own Mall is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with the exception of the bank). The Confederat­ion Court Mall will be closed.

Calls to Shoppers Drug Mart, Lawtons Drugs and Murphy’s Pharmacies confirmed all three will be open but with varying hours. It should also be noted that some of the Murphy’s Pharmacies locations across the province will be closed on Canada Day.

Shoppers Drug Mart in West Royalty will open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. while the location on University Avenue will operate on regular hours, from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Lawtons Drugs on Grafton Street in Charlottet­own will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location in the Sherwood Business Centre on St. Peters Road will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

As for Murphy’s Pharmacies, East Royalty will be open from 1-5 p.m.; Parkdale is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (home health care section is closed); Stratford is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; West Royalty is open noon to 5 p.m.; Cornwall is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Kensington is open 1-5 p.m.; Queen Street in Charlottet­own is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Central Street in Summerside is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Still with Murphy’s Pharmacies, the post office, Wellington, Morell, Rustico, Summerside and Tyne Valley.

For those looking to catch a movie, Cineplex is open as per normal but City Cinema is closed.
