Big week of performances in Indian River

Ten Strings and a Goatskin and Elmer Iseler Singers on stage at St. Mary’s

-

Ten Strings and a Goatskin as well as the Elmer Iseler Singers will be performing in historic St. Mary’s this weekend. Ten Strings and a Goatskin will take to the stage this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Elmer Iseler Singers will be performing on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Ten Strings and a Goatskin is a bilingual folk/fusion trio from P.E.I. who presents traditional and original music inspired by their Acadian roots, and infused with pop and world rhythms. This young acoustic power threesome transforms traditional music with vigor, curiosity and sparks of goofy humour. Their 2017 ECMA award-winning album “Auprès du Poêle” (“Around the Woodstove”) invites a new circle of listeners to both a moody and high-energy set of original and traditional songs. Expanding on the Scottish and Acadian roots of P.E.I.’s traditional music, Ten Strings and a Goatskin weave old-school Franco-Canadian, Breton, Irish, and Scottish tunes with wickedly current grooves and clever quirks, flirting with indie’s best moments.

The Elmer Iseler Singers (EIS), conducted by artistic director Lydia Adams, enters its 39th season. This 20-voice professional choral ensemble, founded by the late Dr. Elmer Iseler, built an enviable reputation throughout Canada, the United States and internationally through concerts, broadcasts and recordings – performing repertoire that spans 500 years, with a focus on Canadian composers.

Annually, EIS sponsors choral workshops through their Get Music! Education Outreach Initiative for secondary school conductors and choirs, concluding with a joint public performance.

Now in its 22nd season, the Indian River Festival is staged at St. Mary’s Church.

Tickets for these July 21 and 23 concerts are available at the festival box office open daily from 12 to 5 p.m. (902-836-3733) and online at IndianRiverfestival. com.
