Mont-Carmel concert features Les Hay Babies, Kim Albert and Cynthia MacLeod

Mont-Carmel concert has Les Hay Babies, Islanders Kim Albert and Cynthia MacLeod.

The Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series is in full throttle presenting Sunday evening concerts at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall until Aug. 27.

This week’s show – the fourth of nine – is part of Atlantic Presenters Associatio­n’s Canada 150 Performanc­e Series in partnershi­p with RADARTS (Réseau atlantique de diffusion des arts de la scène).

The artists taking the stage this week are Les Hay Babies of New Brunswick, Kim Albert and Cynthia MacLeod. There will also be step-dancing by Alex Arsenault as well as Isabelle and Danielle Saunders.

Les Hay Babies is an indiefolk trio of women originally from three different areas of New Brunswick. Katrine Noël, Vivianne Roy and Julie Aubé weave their different accents together to create an appeasing ambiance. Each a winner of the contest Accros de la chanson in New Brunswick, the group went on to win the Francophon­e Singers/Songwriter­s of the Year title during the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

In 2015, their album “My Homesick Heart” received the award for Francophon­e Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards. Les Hey Babies will be performing songs from their new album “La 4ième dimension

(version longue).” Albert grew up on country music. She has showcased at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Many of her singles have played on country music radio stations across Canada. She has also performed across Canada, the United States, Dubai and the Virgin Islands. She currently plays with her band Kim Albert and Faces.

P.E.I. fiddler Cynthia MacLeod is best known for her boundless energy on stage, enthusiast­ically weaving through jigs, reels and strathspey­s, accented by sweet waltzes and beautiful airs. When not on stage or in recording studios, she works with the Festival of Small Halls as its artistic director. Her fiddle will also provide the music for the step-dancers.

The July 23 concert starts at 7 p.m. and the doors of the hall at 5786 Route 11 open at 6:15 p.m. Guests can buy 50/50 tickets and the canteen will be open. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for members of the co-operative, $5 for students and free for preschoole­rs.
