Members of the Canadian Coast Guard had to retrieve a retriever Monday.
The Halifax Inshore Rescue Boat Service rescued a golden retriever from off the coast of Conrad’s Beach during a routine patrol of the area Monday.
“This has never happened to us before,” said Breagh Harrie, a member of the crew to rescue the dog.
“Our bosses here have been working for the coast guard for years and none of them have ever had anything like this happening.”

Bronwyn Forsythe and Harlow Lachance were doing a routine patrol of the area when they were called to help find a golden retriever who’d been in
the water for 45 minutes. Harrie said the dog went out for a swim, but got a little disoriented and couldn’t find her way back to shore.
After about five minutes of searching, the crew spotted the dog in the water, about half a mile offshore.
Harrie said the dog was a little wary of the boat at first, but then warmed up to the crew once she realized they were there to help.
“She was pretty happy that she wasn’t in the water anymore,” said Harrie. “She was very tired.”
The crew then took the dog to Lawrencetown beach, where a lifeguard would come out and bring the dog back to shore and reunite her with her family.
Harrie did not get the dog’s name, but said she was about seven or eight years old.
