59 new townhouses in Summerside filled

- BY ALYSHA CAMPBELL

Friendly people, quiet neighbourhood with beautiful homes, that’s how Brenda Boyle describes her new residence in one the city’s newest developments.

Soon there will be 59 townhouses in total at MacCormack’s Luxury Garden Estates, with the last 14 builds wrapping up in October, after three years of construction in the area off of Summerside’s Duke Street.

Boyle is thrilled for her new neighbours.

“My sister is moving here in November and we’re both really excited.”

It doesn’t take being related to feel like a family though. Everyone is really close, said Boyle.

“It’s almost like a big family.” All the houses are spoken for. People are coming from all over Canada, with about 25 per cent being from off-Island. No advertisement was needed, the developers said. The MacCormack’s have a good relationship with their residents.

Angus, Rita, John, David and Rosalee MacCormack are a family turned team that made it happen.

The creative mastermind, Rosalee, picked the colours of the homes so that they’re similar, but leave room for personalization.

It’s clear from the curb that the residents take the time to make their homes unique in an otherwise uniform setting.

Most of the residents are seniors, said Rosalee.

Boyle, a retired teacher from Tignish, who seems to know everyone and their father, is always willing to open her door for her many friends or family.

Inclusiveness is important to her, so when she does open the door, everyone can come in, and move around easily.

Everything is on one level with no steps and wheelchair accessible. This is helpful for when her 90-year-old mom or quadriplegic friend visits. Respect is something that isn’t an issue either, the peaceful neighborhood stays quiet and when something is heard, like Boyle chopping corn loudly, the only response is her 80 year old neighbour checking on her to make sure she’s okay.

“It’s just a great place to live.”
