Gold Cup Trot set for Friday morning
Five-kilometre event takes place in Charlottetown
Pre-registration is now open for the 13th edition of the Gold Cup Trot 5K Road Race.
This fun event takes place on Friday, and features a fun and unique course. The majority of the route is on the Gold Cup Parade, and runners get to experience having a large crowd cheering them on as they make their way around the course. The Gold Cup Trot is not only a fun event for runners of all ages, speedsters also love this event.
Lee Wesselius, of River Glade, N.B., set the current course record of 14 minutes 50 seconds (14:50) in 2016. It is the fastest 5K road race ever held on P.E.I. Grace Annear of New Brunswick set the women’s course record of 18:36 in 2011.
Runners can pre-register at Proude’s Shoes in the Sherwood Plaza up until store closing on Thursday, Aug. 17. There will also be registration the morning of the race starting at the Victoria Park ball diamond clubhouse at 8 a.m. Runners who pre-register are entered in a draw for a pair of running shoes. Cost is $15 per individual, $50 for a family of four and $10 for each additional runner.
The race starts by the tennis courts at 9:40 a.m., and finishes between the ball diamonds in Victoria Park. All proceeds from this event are donated to Easter Seals P.E.I.
