Cheverie joins Hurricanes
For 2017-18 ACAA season
The Holland Hurricanes’ men’s basketball team has added some P.E.I. talent.
DeSable native Isaac Cheverie will join the Hurricanes for the 2017-18 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association season. Cheverie is coming off backto-back P.E.I. School Athletic Association senior AA championships with the Bluefield Bobcats, and he was named the league’s most valuable player for the 2016-17 campaign.
“The overall talent and success of the program that I’ve seen is what really drew me here,” said Cheverie. “It means a lot to be able to play in my home province.”
A six-foot-two, 185-pound shooting guard, Cheverie joins the Hurricanes with great spotup shooting ability and has shown a remarkable work ethic in his short time with the Hurricanes.
“I think fans can expect a team that hustles hard, with a torrid offensive pace, that should look to continue on the success of recent years,” Cheverie said.
Making the jump from high school to college in any sport is difficult, but Cheverie is up to the task and is looking to make the most of his opportunities. “I couldn’t have imagined making it to this point at all, but to be able to do it at Holland College makes it all the best,” said Cheverie. Hurricanes head coach Josh Whitty is excited to add Cheverie.
“He’s a great kid that comes from a great family,” said Whitty. “I’m excited to see how he improves as he makes the jump to the collegiate level. “His development will make great strides as he’s a tremendously hard-working studentathlete.”
The Hurricanes are the fivetime defending conference champions, as well as the 2017 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) bronzemedallists.
The Hurricanes open regularseason play on the road against the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on Nov. 4. Their home opener is versus the UNBSJ Seawolves on Nov. 11.
