Courtney Hogan and Norman Stewart welcome ‘Music Man’ to Emerald

-

The Island’s “new favourite redhead” is gearing up for another Friday ceilidh at the Emerald Boxcar Pub and Grill Community Centre. Courtney Hogan, a popular celtic and traditional fiddler, has been playing music since the age of five.

Now, each week, Hogan calls up some of her musical friends she’s met over the years to join her on stage, and this week brings personal favourites in Michael Pendergast and Norman Stewart.

“I’ve played in just about every small hall on P.E.I., but there’s no place like the [Emerald] boxcar. It just has a good vibe and the strong local support we get there is humbling,” said Hogan.

Pendergast, affectionately known as “The Music Man”, a popular children’s performer, draws on his Irish-Acadian roots for a blend of humour, storytelling and traditional music.

In the past, Pendergast has partnered with Hogan for her “Swinging on a Note” CD for “The Ballad of Big John MacNeil,” which will leave every foot stomping and every hand clapping at the Boxcar on Friday.

They’ll be joined by another ceilidh favourite with Wood Island’s Norman Stewart.

“I honestly don’t think there is anyone I have more fun with

on stage than Norman,” said Hogan.

“He’s extremely talented, and amazing voice, and you never know what he’s going to say or do next. It’s impossible not to have a good time when Norman’s around.”

Janelle Banks will also make a step dancing appearance.

Show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Emerald Boxcar Pub and Grill. Food and drinks will be available at 5:30 p.m. admission is $10 at the door.

There will also be CDs, 50/50 tickets and souvenir T-shirts available.
