Taking a risk

“I felt I was ready for the next phase of my career. The more I get to learn and listen, the better it is for me to continue to develop.” Scott Harris
Scott Harris admits he took a risk.
His previous contract as scouting co-ordinator with the Columbus Blue Jackets had expired.
“I told Columbus that I wasn’t going to renew my contract because I wanted to pursue and see what was available around the NHL,” said Harris, who acknowledged he was “very grateful” the Blue Jackets offered him an extension and for his time in Columbus. “I felt I was ready for the next phase of my career. “The more I get to learn and listen, the better it is for me to continue to develop.” Harris contacted the Devils after his contract with the Blue Jackets expired. The Devils showed a lot of interest, and he’s now their manager of player information/video and will also scout.
Individuals do not make the NHL in any capacity without a strong support system. Harris emphasized his family has been his “biggest” supporter, and acknowledged the support and encouragement he’s received from fellow Prince Edward Islanders Doug MacLean, Jim Clark, Jim Rankin, Gerard Gallant and George Matthews, Shane Turner and Kevin Devine. “All these people have been integral in helping me get to where I am,” offered Harris, who added he takes great pride in representing P.E.I. “It’s important, because in my young career I do not take it for granted to be where I am. . .
“To work in the NHL is most definitely a privilege, and is something I never want to take for granted.”
