Boys and Girls Club in Summerside receives $10,000

-

The Summerside Boys and Girls Club is receiving $10,000 as one of the nine Atlantic organizations to receive funding from Farm Credit Canada (FCC). The money will be used to purchase and install a new threefloor wheelchair lift in the Boys and Girls clubhouse.

The FCC is giving $1.5 million through its AgriSpirit Fund to 78 community groups all across Canada to support rural capital projects.

In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, the fund was increased from $1 million.

It’s an investment in rural Canada, said Sophie Perreault, FCC executive vice-president.

“It’s about partnering with individuals and groups who are committing their time and energy for the purpose of bettering their communities.” The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards range between $5,000

and $25,000 for community improvement projects.

Hospitals and medical centres, fire and rescue equipment, playgrounds, food banks, libraries, arenas, swimming pools, recreation areas, and community centres are all eligible for the improvement funds.

Nationally, 1,214 applications were received this year, which demonstrates how invested rural Canadians are in their communities, noted Arsenault.

Over the past 14 years, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund has supported almost 1,100 projects, an investment of more than $12 million.
