Weekly Prince District RCMP report
The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigations undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Aug. 21 and 27:
No Parking
On Aug. 21, at approximately 4 p.m., East Prince RCMP received two complaints of vehicles parking along Brander’s Pond Road in Seaview. The road seems to be used as parking for people who attend the beach. The complainant was concerned that emergency vehicles would not be able to get through if required. The matter is being addressed and the Department of Transportation will look into putting up signage.
Collision
On Aug. 21, at approximately 5 p.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a call of a twovehicle collision in Ellerslie. The 56-year-old driver of one vehicle was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries and the 23-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital by a relative as a precaution. The 56-year-old male was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
False alarm
On Aug. 21 at approximately 11 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call of a missing person. Upon speaking with the complainant, it was learned that the missing female was safe and on her way home from a friend’s house. As a result of this priority call, police were not able to immediately respond to another call for service.
Mailbox destruction
On Aug. 21, RCMP received a complaint of damage to a mailbox from a resident of Harper. The complainant is one of several who are reporting recent similar occurrences in surrounding areas. Police are investigating information received, stating a half-ton truck has been seen in the area recently, with multiple passengers riding in the back.
Damaged device
On Aug. 22, RCMP received a complaint of damage to a device used on farmland in Breadalbane. The damage is believed to have happened in late July, and the investigation is continuing.
Abandoned vehicle
On Aug. 23, at approximately 7 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call regarding an abandoned vehicle in the ditch in North Bedeque. The registered owner was identified and spoken to. The vehicle was towed.
Drive safe
On Aug. 23, at approximately 2:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint from a concerned bystander, who witnessed three children being transported in a vehicle in an unsafe manner at Stanley Bridge. The vehicle originated from Ontario, and through investigation and patrol, the vehicle driver was located. It was determined the children were safe and the driver was warned and advised to take caution with children passengers.
Lawnmower blades stolen
On Aug. 23, at approximately 4 p.m., RCMP received a complaint of a theft of blades of a commercial lawnmower at a residence in West Point. The theft is believed to have occurred during night hours of Aug. 21. The investigation is continuing.
Possible impaired driver refused to pull over
On Aug. 23, at approximately 5:30 p.m., police were dispatched to Borden-Carleton after receiving a complaint of a possible impaired driver that had entered onto the Confederation Bridge. Police were able to locate the vehicle, a black Dodge Ram, however the driver would not pull over after police activated emergency equipment, and continued on to pass vehicles on the bridge. New Brunswick RCMP was notified to continue to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Single-vehicle collision
On Aug. 24, at approximately 2:30 a.m. West Prince RCMP attended the scene of a single vehicle collision in Tignish. The 41-year-old driver was the lone occupant and was not injured.
Theft
Early in the morning of Aug. 24, RCMP received a complaint of theft of gas cans and ‘whipper snippes’ from a property in O’Leary. The theft is believed to have occurred through the night prior, on Aug. 23. Police are working with some leads on the investigation.
ATV towed
On Aug. 24 at approximately 10 a.m., a charge under the Off-Highway Act was issued to a young driver of an ATV in Tignish. The ATV was subsequently towed and police have been in contact with the parents of the driver.
Fuel theft
On Aug. 24, West Prince RCMP received a report of a theft of diesel fuel from a Komatsu excavator. The theft occurred on the Smallwood Road in Knutsford sometime in the overnight hours. The matter is still under investigation.
Missing signs
On Aug. 24, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a complaint was received by RCMP. Missing signs from a business in Abrams Village were reported. The investigation is continuing.
Two-vehicle collision
On Aug. 2017 at approximately 6 p.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Route 2 in Springhill. Both drivers were taken to hospital and released.
Extra patrols
On Aug. 24, a request was made to have extra patrols to the Dickie Road in BordenCarleton, and specifically to a parking lot located adjacent. The extra police presence will be made in effort to deter mischief and theft from vehicles that has been taking place there recently.
A request for extra patrols through St. Louis has also been made, specifically for Route 152. The extra police presence will be made in an effort to deter the increase of speeding vehicles that was reported recently.
Single-vehicle collisions
Around 11 a.m., on Aug. 25, RCMP attended the scene of a single-vehicle traffic collision on the Warren Road in Elmsdale. The vehicle involved hit a guardrail and all four occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Shortly after noon on Aug. 25, RCMP responded to a singlevehicle collision on Route 12 in Cascumpec, whereby a vehicle drove off the road and hit a tree. The driver, lone occupant of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries. At approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 25, RCMP responded to the scene of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Route 12 in Central Kildare. There were no injuries.
Motorcycle accident
At approximately 10 a.m. on Aug. 26, RCMP responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision involving a motorcycle on Route 1A in North Bedeque. The motorist swerved in attempt to avoid a collision with a car turning left and lost control. The female motorist was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Minor damages in collision
On Aug. 26, at approximately 2:30 p.m., RCMP responded to the scene of a two-vehicle traffic collision at an intersection in Borden-Carleton. There were minor damages to both vehicles involved, and no injuries reported.
Dog inside vehicle
On Aug. 26, at approximately 3 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a dog barking and panting inside a vehicle in Park Corner. The owner showed up a short time later and the dog was fine.
Lost control
At approximately 10 p.m. on Aug. 26, West Prince RCMP members responded to a singlevehicle traffic collision on Route 12 in Cascumpec. The 19-year old driver lost control of her vehicle, and was subsequently transported to hospital.
Fire destroys vehicle
On Aug. 27 at approximately 5:45 a.m., West Prince RCMP were made aware that O’Leary Fire Department was on the scene of a vehicle on fire. The 4-door Honda Civic was totally destroyed. Police are waiting to speak to the registered owner. The matter is still under investigation.
Checkpoint
On Aug. 27, West Prince RCMP conducted a checkpoint on Route 142 in O’Leary. Approximately 100 vehicles were checked and four summary offence tickets were issued.
Complaints
During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 21 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically, littering, driving with an unsecure load, or speeding. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout the month of August in various communities across Prince District.
